Commonly known as sea lilies, Crinoids are a member of the echinoderm group of animals (not plants) which all live in the sea. Among them are sea urchins, star fish, and brittle stars.
Ammonites were cephalopods, predatory marine mollusks, and shared many similarities with their modern relatives, the squid, octopus and chambered nautilus.
The term ammonite refers to an extinct group of mollusks. These creatures along with dinosaurs, died out at the close of the Cretaceous period, about sixty five million years ago. The most frequently preserved portion of the ammonite is the hard shell. This shell served as protection for the soft tissue of the animal and also allowed the animal to achieve buoyancy in the marine environment in which it lived.
